The workplace is somewhere where most of us would spend half our lives. Many even claim the workplace to be their second home. And if you ask me, I’ll say that this is no surprise since many work a minimum of 40 hours a week. Hence, it is only right, that we make our offices a place that is as safe as our houses. Here are a few safety measures in the office that we should follow in order to keep ourselves out of harm’s way.

Report Hazardous Conditions

To begin with, we should always report any hazardous conditions that we find. Just like how you would tell your parents if there’s something wrong or dangerous at home, you should always report any dangerous situations that you encounter. Even if you think it’s something as simple as a wet floor or a loose wire. People could very well slip on the spilt water or trip over that wire. And yes, these things can kill you. According to OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), a total of 36% of fatalities are due to falls. So, why not do what little we can to keep ourselves safe.

Keep Your Workstations Clean

Now personally, I feel that this should be made compulsory for everyone. It’s not just about keeping the floors and toilets clean to keep them pest-free. We should also keep our personal workstations clean. If you’re working in a lab, clean up spilt chemicals; if you work in construction, don’t leave tools lying around. Even if you’re working in a general office on a computer, keep your desk snack-free and keep water bottles and cups away from the wires. Because unlikely as it may be, your spilt water could cause electrocutions to occur.

Wear Protective Gear

For those working jobs that put your life at risk, protective gear is a must. People working in labs, construction sites, hospitals, manufacturing factories and many more should always wear their protective gear. Not only does it keep you safe from harmful situations, but it can also ensure that you don’t contaminate the area and products. And though you may feel that you are more comfortable or that you can finish your job quicker without the protective gear, you are keeping yourself from contracting any illness or getting any injuries simply by wearing your protective gear.

Maintain Proper Posture

It’s critical to maintain good posture while doing occupational duties. This safety advice is easy to overlook while you’re engrossed in an activity, whether it’s carrying heavy goods or sitting at a computer. Proper posture is important for employees to remember since it can help them avoid aches, pains, and long-term impairment to their neck, back, and shoulders.

Keeping these safety measures in mind, we’ll be able to make our workplace a much safer place to be in. So, if you’re looking to start your own business, check out offices for rent in Jalan Raja Laut right here.
