And when it comes to watching a simple movie, they froze and put pressure on cinemas not to screen it.
Tanda Putera scheduled for screening yesterday did not see the lights of it in Penang.
Reason: Lim Guan Eng’s “strong arm” tactics went into full shift again, this time harassing Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) into not screening the movie.
GSC which succumbed to the pressure of the head of state had issued a directive to its two cineplexes not to screen it.
It is a letdown by GSC which should have stood up against Guan Eng. As a result of not doing that, Penangites and its cinema patrons in the state are now deprived of watching the much awaited movie.
This is not what democracy is all about as propagated by DAP. In doing so, Guan Eng is undermining the intelligence of the Penang people.
Guan Eng’s action of harassing the cinema operators tantamount to him subscribing to bullying tactics in handling situations.
It is an uncouth way in tackling matters especially coming from a state leader.
It smacks of a case of abuse of power. Movies are a creative industry and Guan Eng should take things with a pinch of salt. In his case, he needs a jar of salt.
Guan Eng claims that the film is a threat to the harmony of a multi-racial society. Hei Tokong, its just a movie. Don’t get unnecessarily worked up.
Tanda Putera is a “fictional” account of events surrounding the May 13 1969 riot. It was an interpretation of an historical event based from multiple opinions.
Those, especially the Gen Y group, who has no inkling of what the May 13 riot is all about should actually watch the movie and have a greater understanding of what had transpired.
The presumptuous attitude of Guan Eng that the movie will jeopardise the harmony of the country smacks of a clear “kia su” attitude in him. Even without watching the movie, he is prejudiced against it.
We thought that his predecessor Dr Koh Tsu Koon who is known is “boh hood” (seedless) is bad enough. But Guan Eng is even worse than him – a hypocrite, arrogant bastard, liar, dictator, all weaved into one.
